So why is tweed so synonomous with style?

Tweed became one of Coco Chanels signature fabrics in the 1920s when the designer started blending tweeds out of wool, silk and cotton to create a lighter weight and more elegant  version of the fabric.

Coco Chaneldidnt invent tweed, far from it.

The fabric, then referred to as twill, originated in Scotland and was used for outerwear.

Coco was inspired by her beau, the Duke of Westminsters, tweed sportswear and she started experimenting with it.

The result was Cocos now iconic Chanel jacket which fitted more like a cardigan.

For the opening of the V&A photography centre in October 2018 she wore a belted tweed Erdem dress with a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes and clutch.

The Duchess also wore a Gucci tweed dress for a visit to the V&A in June 2017. The short grey dress feature red trimmed pockets and pretty pearl buttons.

Fittingly Kate wore a Chanel two piece on a 2 day visit to Paris in 2017 where she was photographed wearing a chic red and blue dotted coat dress.

It was cinched at the waist with a belt and teamed with a quilted maroon Chanel bag.

Kate also owns a blue Rebecca Taylor tweed suit that she wore for a visit to a London Childrens Hospital in February 2017.

Other memorable stylish tweed outfits include a Tom Ford indigo twill jacquard wing coat that she wore to bid farewell to their Australian tour in 2014 and an Emilia Wickstead coat she wore to commemorate ANZAC day at the Australian War Memorial in 2014.
